NEW MOTO GUZZI HEADQUARTERS

Founded in Mandello del Lario in 1921, Moto Guzzi remains closely connected to its original production site, set between the Prealps and Lake Como. The transformation designed by Greg Lynn Form reinterprets the historic complex as a new industrial and cultural hub, integrating the factory with museum, archive, event and hospitality spaces. A central piazza connects the different areas of the site, establishing a continuous relationship between production, cultural functions and the visitor experience. Within the new museum, UniFor developed a fully bespoke exhibition system designed to accommodate a collection of more than 160 motorcycles, together with archive materials, memorabilia, accessories, clothing and scale models. Through a process encompassing design development, engineering and production, a wide range of custom platforms, plinths, showcases, displays and supports was integrated into the exhibition route, providing a flexible infrastructure capable of responding to different formats and contents. 

The custom elements are complemented by components from the X Shelving system, designed by Foster + Partners, and the CF system, designed by Dante Bonuccelli, used for the helmet collection and archival materials. Metal structures, aluminium shelving and surfaces finished in textured cement-effect resin establish a consistent material language, in dialogue with both the architecture and the technical character of Moto Guzzi’s industrial heritage. UniFor’s contribution extends to the hospitality and visitor-service areas, with bespoke furnishings developed for the café, merchandising area, checkout counter and the space dedicated to the Registro Storico Moto Guzzi. Lounge areas are furnished with elements from the PRINCIPLES collection, designed by OMA, while selected operational spaces feature LessLess tables, drawer units and cabinets designed by Jean Nouvel. Paul sofas, designed by Vincent Van Duysen for Molteni&C, complete the waiting areas. 

The project also includes spaces dedicated to the photographic archive and the preservation of prototypes, for which UniFor developed specific storage and display solutions. Through its dialogue with Greg Lynn Form and the client, UniFor contributed to creating a coherent system capable of addressing the requirements of exhibition, hospitality, work and conservation within a single architectural framework, supporting the continued evolution of a historic manufacturing site.
