Part of the campus of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the Rolex Learning Center is an international cultural institution incorporating a large library with more than 500,000 volumes, education spaces, offices, study areas, relaxation and break areas, a coffee shop and a restaurant. Constructed using advanced and innovative techniques, the complex is shaped as a huge wave-like glass and cement slab that barely touches the ground. A light, floating structure consisting of a series of extreme, polymorphic curvatures that define the various areas of the building, including outdoor spaces. On a similar note, the interiors are designed to create a sensual, enveloping landscape, that is free from obstacles and partition elements. A permeable, unitary and harmonious environment, lit by a uniform ethereal light.
