Two carps: water/earth - village/city - Phenomenologies
Monograph exhibit by Kengo Kuma
Palazzo della Ragione, Padova
26th October 2007 – 27th January 2008

Kengo Kuma is the guest of honour at the third Biennial International "Barbara Cappochin" Prize for Architecture.
The installation is created by Kuma together with Carlotta De Bevilacqua, and the new exhibit “Two carps: water/earth - village/city - Phenomenologies” offers an idealized voyage through ancient Japanese tradition, and engages visitors in a journey which is as original as it is exciting.
Visitors can actually go inside the two striking carp-shaped structures made of organza which, together with a backlit glass platform, act as screens for slides of the Japanese architect’s most famous works to successfully depict his artistic and professional experience.
In Japan, the carp symbolises new life and so its use in this exhibit represents “the close link between the new architectural design and tradition, as well as the ideal bridge between Italy and Japan.”.
